Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitar player and music artist. She was the youngest and first female to win the British House of Commons Shield she's received 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live in concert and be a presenter for the award ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is a rising young star of sitar music. Indian sitar. She is a student and granddaughter of legendary Ravi Shankar. Her childhood was spent bouncing back and forth from London and New Delhi. Her debut performance was on stage in New Delhi when she was only 13 years old. At the age of 13, she finished her high school education at Encinitas CA. Anouskha's career as a musician and performer is impressive, despite her young age. She frequently joins her father in performances this she has been doing for a number of years. Her first solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. It was nominated for a Grammy Award. Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. As she's appeared on all the major stages in across the globe, she's career on stage has been extensive. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond the realm of music. She released Bapi, the love of my life in the year 2002. It is a biography which pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. In 2003 she starred as the role of a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's work continues to develop and we are likely to see many things from her in years to follow. Anoushka Shankar is a British born singer who travelled her early days in London, Delhi and California. When she was nine years old, she started studying music with her father. She made her first on the sitar 4 years later, at his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. Anoushka performed with her father on his worldwide tour, gained an impressive amount of experience. As a teenager, she played at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and even recorded with George Harrison. She was the only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her musicianship and talent as a preeminent musician of in the Asian Arts.
